Selection and compatibility
- Boat-length ranges are approximate manufacturer guides and must not be the only sizing method.
- Consider displacement, windage, anchorage exposure, current, seabed, cruising area and storm/security margin.
- Check anchor length, hinge movement, fluke width and shank against the bow roller and locker.
- Match rode type, chain size, connector working load and windlass gypsy to the complete system.
- Articulated plough anchors contain a moving joint that must remain free and undamaged.
Installation, operation and package
- Choose a rated connector that passes freely through the shank eye and bow equipment.
- Inspect the hinge, casting, galvanizing and shank before use and after grounding or impact.
- Deploy suitable scope and reverse-load progressively to confirm a firm set.
- Monitor position and be prepared to reset or change anchor if the bottom is unsuitable.
- Rinse after use and repair damaged galvanizing appropriately.
Package contents: one Talamex plough anchor in the selected 7, 9, 12, 15 or 22kg size; rode and connectors are separate.
Frequently asked questions
Which weight should I choose?
Use the manufacturer guide only as a starting point, then account for displacement, windage, seabed and expected weather.
Is a shackle or swivel included?
No. Select a properly rated compatible connector separately.
Will it fit every bow roller?
No. Measure the chosen anchor and confirm hinge, fluke and shank clearances.
Is a heavier anchor always enough for worse weather?
Not by itself. Rode size, scope, seabed, setting technique and the whole system determine security.
Safety: Use conservative sizing and professional advice for exposed, tidal, commercial or unattended moorings.
