AMC 40mm² Flexible Battery Cable

Black PVC Sheath | 30 Metre Reel | SKU PVC40.30.B

AMC flexible 40 mm² battery cable supplied as a continuous 30 metre black reel. Its fine-stranded conductor is designed to route more easily than rigid power cable in high-current battery, starter and distribution installations.

CORRECT CABLE SELECTION: The published 300 A figure is a nominal product rating, not a universal safe ampacity. Confirm voltage drop and installation derating for the actual circuit before cutting or terminating the cable.

Key Features

  • Fine-stranded flexible conductor for easier routing
  • 40 mm² conductor cross-section
  • Black PVC outer sheath
  • 30 metre continuous reel
  • Low resistance for correctly designed high-current circuits

Technical Specs

Conductor size 40 mm²
Nominal current rating 300 A catalogue figure
Conductor construction 539 × 0.30 mm strands
Length 30 m (98.4 ft)
Colour Black
Maximum outside diameter 12.7 mm
Maximum resistance at 20°C 0.00050 Ω/m

Compatibility / Fitment Guide

This is a universal electrical cable, not an engine-specific part. Compatibility is established by electrical load, total circuit length, voltage drop, installation conditions and terminal size.

System voltage Low-voltage DC battery systems where 40 mm² cable is confirmed by calculation and equipment instructions.
Typical circuits Battery negative returns, bonding to a specified negative bus, starter returns and high-current DC interconnects. Black is normally used for DC negative/return identification.
Required sizing check Calculate with the maximum circuit current, the full positive-and-return conductor length, permitted voltage drop, duty cycle, ambient temperature and any bundling or engine-space derating.
Termination Use crimp lugs made for 40 mm² cable and the terminal stud size. Crimp with the correct calibrated hex or hydraulic tooling, support the cable mechanically and seal exposed joints with adhesive-lined heat-shrink.
Polarity identification Black normally identifies DC negative/return. Verify the existing vessel wiring convention; do not rely on colour alone on older or modified installations.
Do not select by Engine horsepower or the catalogue amp figure alone. Confirm the engine/battery manufacturer's cable-size table and the applicable marine electrical standard before installation.

Important: Do not infer that 40 mm² is suitable for every 300 A circuit. Long runs, continuous loads, hot engine spaces and bundled cable can require a larger cross-section.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose this cable from the amp rating alone?
No. The stated figure is a nominal catalogue rating. Safe installation depends on circuit length, allowable voltage drop, duty, temperature, bundling, protection and the equipment manufacturer's instructions.

How is cable-run length measured?
For voltage-drop calculations use the complete current path: the positive feed plus the negative return, unless your chosen calculator explicitly asks for one-way length.

Are terminals included?
No. This listing is for cable on a reel. Select lugs separately to match the conductor cross-section and each terminal's stud diameter.

Can unused cable be installed as AC mains wiring?
No assumption should be made from conductor size alone. Use it only within the product's stated voltage/application rating and the applicable wiring standard.

Installation note: Isolate all power sources before work. Protect positive conductors as required by the equipment manufacturer and applicable marine standard, while observing any specific starter-circuit provisions.
