Is this a genuine original part?

This is a premium quality aftermarket replacement part (Pretech KM series) designed to match or exceed the technical specifications of the Mercury OEM 8M0082493 cable.

How do I know if I have Gen I or Gen II controls?

Gen I cables have a cylindrical brass end with a simple eyelet/post connection. Gen II cables (often used in 4000/5000 series boxes) use a different "barrel" style fitting at the control head end. This cable is strictly for Gen I.

Can I use this for both Throttle and Shift?

Yes, for most Mercury/MerCruiser mechanical systems, the throttle and shift cables are identical. If you need to replace both, you should order two of these cables.

Note: Please verify your original part number or measure your existing cable length before purchasing. For outboard installations, it is recommended to add 18 inches to the measured path to allow for engine movement.
