How to select the correct cable length:

• Measure the outer casing (outer sheath) along the intended routing from the helm to the rudder or steering gear, following the actual path the cable will take and including bends and fittings. Do not measure a straight-line distance.
• Include allowances for installation fittings and connectors: add the distance required for the helm feed-through, connector adapters, and the output end engagement per your helm manufacturer's guidance (typically 50–150 mm depending on connector type).
• Allow extra length for service loops and to maintain gentle bends; ensure routing will not require a bend radius tighter than 200 mm.
• Compare your measured casing length plus allowances to available cable lengths and choose the cable whose casing length equals or slightly exceeds your measured run.
• If uncertain, provide your measured casing length and helm model to the helm or cable manufacturer for confirmation before ordering.
