Questions & Answers

Is this suitable for quenching high-carbon knife steels?

Yes, ISO 22 is the industry standard for knife making, particularly for high-carbon steels like 1095. It provides a fast enough quench to achieve maximum hardness while being more stable than water or brine.

What is the recommended bath temperature?

For best results in conventional quenching, the oil bath is typically pre-heated to between 40°C and 60°C to reduce viscosity and ensure maximum heat transfer at the surface of the metal.

Does this oil smoke heavily?

Being a highly refined mineral oil with a high flash point, it is designed to minimize vapor formation and smoking compared to non-specialized oils, provided it is used within standard quenching temperature ranges.

Note: Proudly manufactured in the UK. Please ensure all quenching is performed in a well-ventilated area following standard heat-treatment safety protocols.
