How do I know if I need the "Offset" pattern?
Engines with a 14-inch (168-tooth) flywheel require this offset/staggered pattern. If your current starter has the two bolts diagonal to each other, this M1786 is the correct part. If they are straight across, you need the M1699/Straight pattern version.
Does this replace my older, larger 9-tooth starter?
Yes. This modern PMGR starter is smaller, lighter, and more powerful than the original Delco 10MT starters. The 11-tooth gear is designed to provide better engagement with the flywheel than the old 9-tooth design.
