The NASA AIS Engine receives AIS transmissions on channels A and B, alternating between them by default for continuous monitoring.
- Receives Class A and Class B AIS transmissions
- Operating frequencies: 162.025 and 161.975 MHz
- Output: NMEA 0183 HS (38,400 baud); relays all AIS VDM messages (ITU‑1371)
- Antenna input: 50 ohm BNC
- Data connector: 9-pin D-type; host must accept NMEA 0183 HS input
- Supply voltage: 10 to 16 V DC
- Dimensions: 11.5 × 10.0 × 3.0 cm (4.5 × 3.9 × 1.2 in); mounting via two moulded flanges
- NMEA RMC from GPS and various receiver parameters available
