Q: Will this fit my engine if it uses a thru-bolt mounting?
A: No. This unit (replaces 184-0001) is designed for applications where the coil mounts via a bracket or strap. If your coil has a hole directly through the center body for a bolt (replaces 184-0006), this is not the correct part.
Q: How do I test my old coil?
A: Using a multimeter, check the Primary Resistance between the positive and negative terminals (should be 0.2-1.0 Ω). Check Secondary Resistance between the spark plug tower and ground (should be 800-1100 Ω). Values significantly outside this range indicate failure.
Q: Which wire goes where?
A: For standard Mercury/Mariner ADI ignitions, the Green wire connects to the Positive (+) terminal and the Black wire connects to the Negative (-) terminal. Ensure the ground strap is clean and tight.
